The Tally is a site devoted to cultural, political, and social critiques, commentaries, and essays. We are dedicated to giving our writers as much freedom as possible– every staff member picks their own article topics, and there is no topic that is truly off limits. Our goal is to provide a space on the Internet for young writers to share their voices, and contribute to substantive public discourses. We publish articles of all lengths, but we are particularly focused on providing opportunities for long-form writing to reach a wide audience.
It is our firm belief that what we need now, more than ever, is vision. We need our youth to be engaged, to be leaders, to help foster democracy in our society by placing art and culture and politics and education back at the center of public and private life. Communication is the basis for a successful democratic society, and here we hope to facilitate just that. Whether they are conservative, liberal, avant-garde, traditionalist, moralist, romantic, existentialist– whatever– all perspectives are welcome here. Open discourse is the key to everything; consideration of new subjects, ideas, and viewpoints is critical to building the kind of future that we want.
If you’re interested in writing for the site, or have any questions or concerns, please email Editors@TheTally.Org to request an application, or notify us of your query or issue. One does not need to be a student to apply. Thanks for visiting, and we hope you enjoy what you read here.
